The World Poker Tour
World Poker Tour is a recognized poker tournament, where lot of world class poker players evaluates their luck and skills for winning the tournament. It is a collection of tournaments of Texas holdem poker that are held on the international level, especially in the US. Now, the television shows has led to an explosion among the people due to the popularity of Texas holdem poker game across the local casinos of America, the homes and on internet.
Land-based casinos and the online poker websites are the key sponsors of the World Poker Tour. This internationally organized show is hosted in cooperation by the winner of WSOP, Mike Sexton, and the actor Vince Van Patten.
The debut season of the tour has been considered as the final part of the year 2002, and the beginning of the year 2003. The Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas was the place where the tournament became the place where the WPT Championship in April 2003 was climaxed. The Travel Channel was the channel of American cable television on which the first season of the tournament was aired in the spring of 2003.
The network of the show has been made debuted on NBC on February 1, 2004 by means of a special tournament of ‘battle of champions’ that has been aired along the Super Bowl XXXVIII’s CBS coverage, which was the pre-game show. The five initial seasons of the WPT was aired by the Travel Channel. The movement of the series to GSN was announced by WPTE in April 2007 for its 6th season in the spring of 2008.
It has been regarded as the highest rated and most popular television program on television cable in its fifth season of broadcasting. Travel channel made the decision to broadcast the event on Wednesdays. The three initial seasons of World Poker Tour are also made available on the DVD’s of NTSC.
The WPT is broadcasted on CITY TV in Canada on Sundays at 4:00 pm ET with its rebroadcast at Midnight or just after the time depending upon the Night Movie of Sunday on the channel. The series would be moving to Monday as it’s shifting to GSN in the year 2008.
Texas holdem player of the year:
The distribution of points for all open tournaments as follows:
• Winner is awarded with 1000 points.
• Runner-up is awarded with 700 points.
• Player on the third place is awarded with 600 points.
• Player on the fourth place is awarded with 500 points.
• Player on the fifth place is awarded with 400 points.
• Player on the sixth place is awarded with 300 points.
• Player on the seventh place is awarded with 200 points. He is also called TV bubble.
Every year these awards are given to the players who have won in sequence and shown their respective skills and potentials in the game. The names of the winners include:
• Howard Lederer in season 1.
• Erick Lindgren in season 2.
• Daniel Negreanu in season 3.
• Gavin Smith in season 4.
• J. C. Tran in season 5.
