Wild Cards in Poker
There are one or more cards termed as wild cards, particularly in the poker games. These wild cards in poker may be jokers, or the cards ranked normally or the suited cards that have been pushed with the duty of wild cards. The most common variant of this game is ‘deuces wild’. The game consists of two rules regarding the common use of wild cards i.e. the ‘bug’ and the ‘fully wild’ cards.
The designation of a fully wild card by the holder of the card depends upon the selection of cards without any restrictions. For example, in this rule, a hand containing a natural pair as well as a wild card to make it a three of a kind. Five of a kind is the best possible hand in the game playing with wild cards in poker. A wild card acts as a bug with the common casino rules. The rank of ace is given to the bug if not designated it as an unlike card would be completing a flush, straight or a straight flush. In this rule, a hand like 2Ks, J ,5 and 2 is just a king’s pair along with an ace-kicker, but a flush would be made by any 4 cards of a single suit with a bug, and a hand like 3, 4, 5, 7, and J makes a straight.
There can be seen 2 exceptions to the standard practice of poker games in the home poker games like the rule of double-ace flush as well as the rule of natural wins. The natural wins rule states that there would be a tie between the hands, otherwise the hand having some wild cards will win. Commonly, it does not happens in casinos and this must be treated as an exception to the standard practice of poker games with wild cards.
Mostly, some players have the tendency of treating wild cards as ‘impure’. They also treat games of wild cards as amateurish or silly games. While, this is also true that when too many wild cards are used in a game then it will be a random situation loosing all the skills. The wild cards in poker games are used in an occasional way for adding some variation as well as add some opportunities to the skillful game. Particularly, the game of 5-card draw poker is played in California with a joker as a bug as well as also played with fully wild deuces. The game of 7-card stud is played with either one o two bugs or even both especially when split pot game of high-low limit is played. Omaha holdem and Texas holdem poker games are not played with wild cards.
